The 2026 rule, in one paragraph

Starting with 2026 returns, you can deduct only 90% of gambling losses, and only if you itemize. Most people take the standard deduction, which means their losses count for nothing on the federal return. That is how a couple can come out $5,000 ahead and still owe about $10,300 more in federal tax, as the receipt shows. Congress is debating a repeal of the 90% cap, but it is not law. Good records and the itemize-or-not decision matter either way.

The IRS gets a copy of every W-2G. Its watchdog found 148,908 people who got gambling-winnings tax forms (W-2Gs) over $15,000 never filed a return. (Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration, 2024.)

We do

  • Figure out what you owe, federal and Pennsylvania
  • File current and past-due returns
  • Total your app and sportsbook histories so the numbers hold up
  • Set up quarterly estimates for side income
  • Build a budget and spending controls with you
  • Read your credit report with you as part of the plan

We don’t

  • Negotiate or settle debts with your creditors
  • Charge to dispute items on your credit report
  • Give legal advice
  • Represent you in an audit or collections case (we refer you to someone who can)
  • Take referral money from sportsbooks, lenders or debt companies

Straight answers

I lost money overall. Do I still owe tax?

Often, yes. If you take the standard deduction, your winnings are taxed and your losses count for nothing on your federal return. Starting with 2026, even people who itemize can only deduct 90% of their losses. We run both ways and show you the numbers.

Will anyone know why I came in?

No. Your file is private, and “Reset” does not say what it is about. Calls are by phone or video, and evenings are fine.

I haven’t filed in a couple of years. Is it too late?

No. We start by pulling your IRS transcripts to see what the IRS already knows, then file the missing years one at a time. Catch-up filing is from $250 per year.

Do you settle debt or fix credit?

No. We never negotiate with your creditors or charge to dispute credit items. We help you build a plan and read your credit report with you, and we refer you to a nonprofit credit counselor when that is the better fit.
