Before you trust a number

The tool covers federal income tax for single, joint and head-of-household filers, plus Pennsylvania gambling tax. It leaves out credits, AMT, other states and local earned income tax, and professional gamblers who file Schedule C. Read the full guide.

How are sports betting winnings taxed in Pennsylvania?

Pennsylvania taxes net gambling income at 3.07%: your winnings minus the cost of your wagers in the same year, never below zero. It has no 90% rule and you do not have to itemize. A net loss cannot lower PA tax on your wages. PA guidance does not name sportsbook or online casino bets, so we confirm the treatment before filing.

What is the 90% rule for gambling losses in 2026?

Starting with tax year 2026, you can deduct only 90% of your gambling losses on your federal return, and never more than your winnings. You also have to itemize to deduct them at all. That is how a year where you came out ahead a little can still add tens of thousands to your taxable income.

Do I have to report winnings if I never got a W-2G?

Yes. Every win counts as income on your federal return, whether or not a sportsbook or casino sent you a W-2G. Your year-end win/loss statement from each app is the best place to find your totals.
